Accessibility
I have created this website, as all the websites I create, to be accessible to a very large audience. This page details methods I have used to do this, and how they can help you.
Screen Size
Almost half of internet users¹ currently use a 1024x768 screen resolution, however, the other half use a wide variety of screen resolutions such as 800x600 and 1280x1024. To make my websites accessible to such users I design in a way that can be viewed on virtually any screen size; without any reading difficulties or layout issues.
Cross-browser Compatibility
I believe cross-browser compatibility is key, as it can significantly increase your website audience. If you consider that 74% of internet users² use Internet Explorer and an ever increasing 18% use Mozilla Firefox; it is easy to see how much larger your audience could be if your website can be displayed successfully on multiple browsers.
Alternative Text
I use alternative (ALT) text on all images on my site that a visually impaired user may wish to know about. The alternate text describes the image, so users with screen readers and users who have images disabled in their browser can visualise the image.
Text size:
The text size can be changed for this website using the 'Test Size' links in the header of every page. Text size can also be changed via your browser options; this is usually View > Text Size.
Access Keys
Access Keys allow users to immediately jump to a specific part of a web page via the keyboard. These have been implemented into this website to make it more accessible for those who find it hard, or impossible, to 'point and click' with a mouse. These keys are also equally useful for fully-able users; as shortcuts; making the site easier and quicker to use.
